Jordan faces increasing pressure on its limited water resources, ranking among the world’s most water-scarce countries with only 61 m³ of renewable water available per capita each year. In response to these challenges, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Water Authority of Jordan have selected ABB’s Genix™ Industrial IoT and AI Suite to support a nationwide effort to modernize water and energy data management. The choice reflects ABB’s competitive strength in combining industrial IoT, artificial intelligence and real-time analytics into a single platform tailored for complex utility environments.
Integrated Data to Improve Efficiency and Reliability
Genix distinguishes itself by unifying operational, engineering and information-technology data from multiple assets into a contextualized, real-time environment. For water utilities, this enables continuous monitoring and analysis of energy use across pumping stations, treatment plants and distribution networks. The platform is designed to provide actionable insights that help operators reduce consumption, optimize operations and increase the reliability of water delivery—capabilities that are increasingly sought by utilities seeking measurable efficiency gains.
Local Expertise to Ensure Effective Deployment
As part of the project, ABB is providing extensive training and implementation support to its regional partner Volt Automation LLC. Ensuring that in-country specialists can deploy and manage Genix effectively is central to the long-term impact of the solution. Volt Automation, which operates in Jordan, Qatar and Sudan, specializes in industrial automation and instrumentation, reinforcing the project with local technical capability.
Supporting Jordan’s Long-Term Water and Climate Strategy
Jordan’s growing population, agricultural demands and the impacts of climate change continue to intensify stress on national water supplies. The deployment of ABB’s platform aligns with the country’s National Climate Change Policy 2022–2050, which prioritizes improvements in water supply, conservation and infrastructure modernization. By enabling clearer visibility of energy consumption and water balance across the sector, Genix provides data-driven input for planning and investment decisions.
Industry Recognition for ABB’s Approach
In September 2025, ABB was positioned as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Global Industrial IoT Platforms. This recognition highlights the company’s sustained investment in industrial AI and IoT technologies—an area where the ability to deliver scalable, integrated and sector-specific solutions increasingly sets vendors apart.
Overall, the adoption of ABB’s Genix Suite in Jordan illustrates how advanced digital platforms can help water utilities strengthen resilience, optimize energy use and improve service delivery in regions facing acute resource constraints.
