Optimum price-performance ratio for harsh environments: Y2/X1 film capacitors of the R41P series from KEMET at Rutronik

In addition to the R41T, KEMET is launching the R41P, a Y2/X1 film capacitor whose smaller size (40% smaller than the R41T) is particularly impressive in applications where space requirements and costs are prioritized. Accordingly, the component has a lower THB value and a shorter service life at high temperatures.

Optimum price-performance ratio for harsh environments: Y2/X1 film capacitors of the R41P series from KEMET at Rutronik

This capacitor series is suitable for use in filters for suppressing electromagnetic interference (EMI) in "line-to-ground" and "across- the-line" applications that require safety classification Y2/X1. These would include applications where capacitor failure could lead to the risk of electric shock, e.g., in the automotive industry, communications, and renewable energy. The R41P series and other components from KEMET are available at www.rutronik24.com.

The Y2/X1 film capacitors of the R41P series consist of a metallized polypropylene film encapsulated in self-extinguishing resin. As a result, the housing fulfills the requirements of flammability class UL 94 V-0.

They are suitable for use in an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C, whereby the operating temperature is defined as follows: Ambient temperature + self- heating + temperature rise due to heat radiation from other heat sources. The cumulative operating time of the R41P at +125 °C can be up to 500 hours, with a capacitance drift of less than 10 % - at an operating temperature of 85 °C, the capacitors deliver up to 100,000 hours.

For optimum functionality, the manufacturer recommends applying a nominal voltage (VR) of 300 VAC (50/60 Hz) and a DC voltage of 1,200 VDC. Both the maximum DC and RMS AC voltage (50/60 Hz) and the peak value of a pulse voltage can be continuously applied to a capacitor at any temperature between the lower category temperature and the nominal temperature.
