Kanto's Largest R&D Center, the Minato MIRAI Innovation Center, Set to Run on 100% Renewable Energy

The Murata Manufacturing Group is converting all electricity consumed in the Group's business activities into renewable energy to meet the goals of the RE100 global environmental initiative.

In recent years, the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels and temperatures, as well as dramatic weather patterns, have become far more prevalent. To help resolve this, it is important for us as a company to work towards the realization of a sustainable society at a company level by implementing renewable energy and optimizing energy management.

With this, the Minato MIRAI Innovation Center, located in Yokohama's Minato Mirai 21 business district, aims to achieve virtually zero CO2 emissions associated with electricity consumption by 2030. To make energy management more efficient, the center has installed a solar panel array and storage battery system, as well as insulation to reduce the load from heating and cooling. The center will also introduce "Hamakko Electricity"*1, provided by the city of Yokohama and TEPCO Energy Partner, Inc., and convert all the electricity consumed into renewable energy. By using environmentally friendly power, we will be helping the city of Yokohama achieve its decarbonization goals to become "Zero Carbon Yokohama."*2

*1: A framework for supplying virtually CO₂-free power via a combination of environmentally friendly power generated mainly from the Yokohama Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau incineration plants and traditional power sources.

*2: Yokohama is aiming for zero greenhouse gas emissions (decarbonization) by 2050 to counteract global warming.

Murata Manufacturing is committed to promoting the use of renewable energy at its domestic and overseas locations to combat climate change.

Following are Murata Manufacturing’s operating objectives relating to this topic:
