Industry’s Highest* Rated Power: ROHM Unveils the UCR10C Series of Sintered Metal Shunt Resistors

ROHM has unveiled the UCR10C Series, a new family of 2012-size (10 mΩ to 100 mΩ) sintered metal shunt resistors delivering what the company states is the industry’s highest rated power in this footprint. Designed for demanding automotive and industrial current-sensing applications, the UCR10C achieves rated powers of 1.0 W and 1.25 W—approximately double that of conventional thick-film and metal-plate shunt resistors of equivalent size.

The UCR10C Series uses a copper-based resistive element sintered onto an alumina substrate. By optimizing the heat-dissipation structure, ROHM enables higher power handling without increasing component size, allowing designers to replace larger or wide-terminal shunt resistors. This supports further miniaturization and can reduce overall component count in space-constrained designs.

Precision is enhanced through the use of a metal resistive element, delivering a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 0 to +60 ppm/°C. This minimizes measurement error caused by temperature variation, supporting accurate current sensing across a wide operating range. In addition, the devices demonstrate durability comparable to metal-plate shunt resistors in temperature cycling tests (-55°C to +155°C, 1,000 cycles), ensuring strong bonding reliability and stable long-term operation even under severe thermal stress, such as in automotive environments.

The UCR10C Series is fully lead-free, with no lead used even in areas typically covered by RoHS exemptions, contributing to reduced environmental impact.

The products are available now through online distributors including DigiKey, Mouser, and Farnell. Looking ahead, ROHM has also begun development of the larger 3216-size UCR18C Series, targeting 2 W rated power to further expand its high-power, high-precision shunt resistor lineup.

Typical applications include current detection in automotive systems, industrial equipment, and consumer electronics.
