Thames Water begins supplier engagement for its AMP 8 projects
Thames Water invests £840 million in 10 capital projects at treatment sites, improving infrastructure, environment, and managing growth, seeking supplier feedback for its Major Projects Framework.

Thames Water has taken a major step forward in its ambitious £840 million project to improve nine water and sewage sites as part of its record investment plans over the next five years (2025-2030).
The UK's largest water company has published a PMEN, Preliminary Market Engagement Notice, unveiling the projects to potential contractors with the aim of having signed agreements by March 2026 as the projects form an essential part of its record infrastructure improvement plans over the next five years. Thames Water is nearly doubling its infrastructure investment between 2025 and 2030 as part of its turnaround plan to deliver for customers and the environment.
Water and sewage treatment plants in London, Surrey, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire will see a range of upgrades to increase their capacity. The projects will improve water quality, reduce pollutions and increase the bioenergy generated. They will include the following:

- Riverside Sewage Treatment Works
- Beckton Sludge Powered Generators replacement
- Beckton Sewage Treatment Works Water Asset Assurance Programme
- Crossness Sewage Treatment Works
- Didcot Sewage Treatment Works
- Wantage Sewage Treatment Works
- Bicester Sewage Treatment Works
- Hogsmill Sewage Treatment Works
Water Treatment Sites
- Ashford Water Treatment Works Ultraviolet Treatment
- Hampton Water Treatment Works Ultraviolet Treatment
The projects are only one part of Thames Water’s ambitious £20 billion infrastructure investment programme.
Thames Water’s supply chain and procurement team is now starting the formal process of engaging interested businesses to refine the commercial approach that will stem from the planned infrastructure programme. Thames Water is seeking feedback on the proposed terms and views on how the Framework can ensure efficient and collaborative working relationships for the company and its appointed contractors.
Subject to governance and procurement procedures, Thames Water aims to enter into framework agreements with selected partners by the end of March 2026, and award the below initial tranche of 10 projects. Additional projects will then be added to the framework in AMP8 (2025 to 2030) and AMP9 (2030 to 2035).
