ARPRO® and KNAUF INDUSTRIES join forces with MAVIC to deliver innovative racing wheel for cyclists

Specialist bike manufacturer, MAVIC, has embraced the engineering capability of lightweight material ARPRO® to create a patented, professional range of racing wheels. These innovative wheels, for the enthusiastic race cyclist, provide a high-performance alternative to expensive carbon fibre.

ARPRO® and KNAUF INDUSTRIES join forces with MAVIC to deliver innovative racing wheel for cyclists
Launched at Eurobike on 31st August, the CXR Elite Wheel-Tyre System, made from ARPRO®, has been initially unveiled in three variations; standard, disc-brake specific and with exclusive Exalith technology. The new range is aimed at any racer who wants to gain the best performance without breaking the bank and is designed to ensure the benefits of high-performance aerodynamic frames supported with wheels of a complementary quality.

Carefully designed to offer strength and reliability, while their 3D shape allows them to retain all of the aerodynamic properties required to deliver a smooth and fast ride. Tyre and rim have been shaped together and perfectly meet the NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) profile requirement, which guarantees the best aerodynamic performance: low drag and high crosswind stability.

The new wheels also offer riders the advantage of being lightweight, strong, weatherproof, easy to clean and easy to transport. Because they are made from the highly versatile ARPRO® material, the wheels can also be widely recycled when they reach the end of their life.

The Mavic CXR Elite Wheel-Tyre System was designed and produced in association with KNAUF Industries. The company moulded the bicycle rim, following a feasibility study, in addition to running a number of trials to successfully validate the part at its base in Rhinau, France.

Maxime Brunand, MAVIC’s Category Line Manager, commented: “When designing our new range of wheels, we wanted to create something for the road cyclist that performed like a racing wheel-tyre system, but also had the durability and stylish looks of a road wheel-tyre system. The use of ARPRO® has allowed us to achieve all of our objectives, while also delivering on our commitment to provide high end products that meet cyclists’ needs.

“The versatility of ARPRO® has allowed us to create the new, innovative, racing wheels to be launched at Eurobike, and we are already looking to future products across our range where ARPRO® will have a positive impact on design, performance and sustainability.”

Bert Suffis, ARPRO® Innovation Manager Europe, Middle East and Africa, added: “Keen cyclists have long been looking for a wheel that offers high end performance and durability, without an exceptionally high price tag. With MAVIC, we have worked to create an inspired range of wheels, which deliver significant performance and long-lasting durability, thanks to the use of ARPRO®.”

Jérôme Pecquet, Knauf Industries’ Sales Manager, pointed out: “Our industrial manufacturing process for the Mavic wheel is developed to allow the right performance and lightness looked for by cyclists.”

The new wheels will be available to test at selected authorised dealers through MAVIC’s Riding Is Believing programme from 2017.
