JCB DEMO LEADS TO CRESTCHIC LOADBANK PURCHASE BY HONG KONG DEALER

Hong Kong JCB dealer Sun Shing Holdings has taken delivery of a loadbank from leading manufacturer, Crestchic. The 600kW resistive-only loadbank was purchased to enable the dealer to test and maintain the generators that it rents and sells in Hong Kong.

Sun Shing Holdings, JCB’s sole dealer for Hong Kong, made the decision to purchase the Crestchic loadbank having seen one in operation at a dealer event hosted in the UK by JCB Power Products last year. Designed to showcase JCB’s generator and lighting tower ranges, the event also highlighted the many benefits that in-house loadbanks can provide for dealers, including the ability to carry out pre-delivery inspections and offer testing services for customers’ equipment.

Crestchic is one of the world’s leading specialist manufacturers of loadbanks which are used to test power supplies in the most demanding climatic and environmental conditions around the globe. The UK-based company has a strong presence in Asia Pacific through its Singapore-based Crestchic Asia Pacific operation.

Crestchic loadbanks are primarily sold and rented to customers operating in the oil and gas, marine, data centre and power generation sectors. They are used for testing electrical power output on diesel generators, gas turbines and UPS systems during commissioning and maintenance work.

General Sales Manager, Man Wong of Sung Shin Holdings, who attended the JCB dealer event, says: “We had been looking for some time for a suitable solution for testing and maintaining our fleet of rental generators. Having seen the Crestchic loadbank in operation with the JCB products it was obvious that this was the choice for us. Having learned that JCB has been using Crestchic loadbanks for its in-house test facilities for a number of years, it was an easy decision for us to go with Crestchic too.”

One of the advantages of a loadbank for owners of rental fleets of generators is that it helps to ensure that the customer specifies the correct capacity. Paul Brickman of Crestchic explains:

“Many operations renting generators order a larger capacity than necessary for the application because they are not 100 per cent sure of how much power they will actually be using. Without exception, generators do not benefit from being lightly loaded as this can lead to carbon build-up which is detrimental to the performance of the generator. The only way to prevent this is to use a loadbank as part of the service procedure. As an organisation that both rents and sells JCB generators, Sun Shing Holdings can now fully load test all of their generators before they go to site and undertake a load test as part of the PDI for new equipment which offers peace of mind to all of their customers whether renting or buying.”

As well as using the Crestchic loadbank for its own generator fleet, Sun Shing Holding also makes it available for hire to customers wanting to test their own installed generators anywhere in Hong Kong.
