Wordle for the materials industry

Matmatch has taken inspiration from the viral game Wordle to create Matword, a word-guessing game specifically built for the materials industry. In keeping with the original, players have six attempts to guess five-letter words, with letter tiles changing colour if guessed correctly.

Materials platform Matmatch launches word-guessing game, Matword.

The game can be played directly on the Matmatch website, matmatch.com/matword-game, with a new word from the engineering and materials world available every day.

During the game, the player starts by choosing a word. If a letter is correct and in the right place, it turns green. If it is the correct letter but in the wrong place, the tile turns orange. If it is an incorrect letter, then it turns grey. For those looking for an extra challenge, Matword also includes six-letter words, with players having seven attempts at these more challenging terms. Previous examples of the type of words used in the game include “molar”, “scrap” and “flake”.

“Matword is a light-hearted way for us to have fun with the subject we’re passionate about,” explained Samir Jaber, technical content writer at Matmatch. “We know how addictive Wordle can be, and waiting for the next word is quite the hook — this is definitely true for the Matmatch team and our friends.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how the materials engineering community responds to the game and whether they manage to guess the words. We’ve had an enthusiastic response from the people who have played so far, albeit a fairly competitive one. Some have been ecstatic after completing the challenge just in two guesses, while some have been furious that they haven’t managed to get it at all. Either way, everyone seems to enjoy the challenge. It has really brought us closer together and has been a great way to start the day.”
