Morgan Advanced Materials

Morgan Advanced Materials is a globally active designer and manufacturer of products for regenerative energy systems and an approved source of slip ring transmitters, carbon brushes, slip ring collectors and shaft grounding rings for wind power plants.

With its headquarters in the UK, Morgan Advanced Materials was founded in 1856 and ranks among the world's market leaders in the field of innovative technologies. The company now operates in more than 50 countries worldwide, drawing on the expertise of more than 9,000 employees. Highly successful in the field of wind power plants for decades, Morgan is a proven partner to the world's leading manufacturers.

Slip ring transmitters for guaranteed pitch control

Since 1921, Morgan Advanced Materials has been engineering and manufacturing in Germany under the brand name Rekofa. Products include special slip ring transmitters for wind power plants, which enable the transfer of currents, electrical signals or media to ensure continuous operation of the rotors.

At the same time, a rotary encoder integrated into the IP67-protected housing allows continuous analysis of the rotor speed. The ergonomically designed slip ring transmitters last for up to 200 million revolutions or 20 years and are maintenance-free for up to five years – both on- and offshore. Tested for shock and vibrational resistance, they perform reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +75°C with humidity up to 95%.

High-current brush holders for lightning protection

Carbon brushes are installed between the hub and nacelle to protect the power plant from lightning strikes. The so-called high-current brush holders transmit up to 1,000 amps each, and are extremely long-lasting.

Dielectric strength and decreasing temperatures

Slip ring collectors and carbon brushes made by Morgan Advanced Materials are installed in the generator where they reliably drive current generation. Configured individually for each specific application, they optimise the temperatures in generators.

Shaft grounding rings extend lifetimes

Many generator manufacturers use AEGIS WTG™ rings nowadays to protect rolling bearings from fault currents.

The conductive microfibre rings channel current away from the shaft, preventing damaging spark erosion in the bearings. They are maintenance-free and can be retrofitted.

Morgan supplies its Rekofa branded products in Germany for more 50 different applications than in more than 15 industries, including construction machinery, medicine, automobiles and tool machinery.
