Johnson Controls is proud to announce the YORK® YHAU-CGN Direct Fired Absorption Chiller – Heater has been chosen as one of the Best Products of the Year in the Boilers and Chillers category by Consulting-Specifying Engineer. The YORK® YHAU-CGN Direct Fired topped four other category finalists to capture the silver award.

The Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s Product of the Year is the premier award for new products in the mechanical, fire/life safety, electrical, lighting, plumbing and related nonresidential building systems market. The annual reader-choice program has provided Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s audience with information about the top new product in their fields for the past 15 years.

Recognized for offering the best balance between application flexibility, economic diversity, efficiency and reliability, the YORK® YHAU-CGN Absorption Chiller – Heater is driven by natural gas commonly available in commercial cooling and industrial process applications. The unit has a natural refrigerant (water) and lithium-bromide (absorbent) that has zero ozone depletion and global warming potential.

The YORK® YHAU-CGN Direct Fired Absorption Chiller uses an innovative two-step evaporator-absorber design with a parallel flow cycle that ensures the lowest lithium-bromide solution concentration, offering the best protection from crystallization.

This enables increased reliability compared to conventional absorption designs. The unit delivers a high real-world energy efficiency with a COP (coefficient of performance) of 1.2 - 1.27 based on the higher heating value of natural gas.

The unit can also be configured as an absorption heat pump, delivering a hot water temperature of up to 194 °F, well-suited for comfort and process heating applications. Because the heating COP is 1.7, the chiller is approximately 70% more efficient than a standard boiler, providing cost savings for users.

The YHAU-CGN Direct Fired Absorption Chiller offers five different modes of operation and accommodates a wide range of applications like commercial comfort cooling, process cooling, and large district cooling. The unit has a wide range of entering condenser water temperatures and leaving chilled water temperatures compared to other conventional chiller-heaters units.
