New generation of drives, new opportunities

Partner event – this time in the Czech Republic: KOLLMORGEN invites to the motor factory in Brno

The second generation of drives was the focus of the two-day KOLLMORGEN partner event in Brno, Czech Republic. What forward-looking possibilities do the AKD2G servo drives and AKM2G servo motors offer in terms of mechanical engineering? This was one of the questions that the European sales and engineering partners tackled as part of intensive rounds of presentations and discussions. The visit to the KOLLMORGEN motor production factory on the second day was also something no one wanted to miss.

With the new generation AKD2G servo drives and AKM2G servo motors, KOLLMORGEN is quite successfully tapping into new areas of application in mechanical engineering. One significant advantage of the second generation lies in the further optimized power density. More torque in less space means that the motors can often be one size smaller. From July 2019, the AKM2G servo motors will be complemented by new low-voltage versions designed for operation with any voltage from 24 to 105 VDC.

These properties also pay off in the area of robotics. Robots are conquering more and more territories, which in the past had little to no points of contact with this fully automated technology. Robot kinematics are even being taken to the farmland as modern harvesters. KOLLMORGEN is supporting the new collaborating systems with highly integrated motion control – for example in the form of the frameless direct drives from the KBM series. It is these motors tailored to applications that KOLLMORGEN is producing in parallel to the series in the Czech Republic. The tour of the production factory in Brno was well attended. The partners also used the possibility to get to know the people at the production factory at a personal level.

Another topic at the international partner meeting: the new developments from KOLLMORGEN in the field of functional safety, as well as new drives for AGVs. KOLLMORGEN is part of the growing market for autonomous guided vehicles with 24 or 48 Volt system solutions that are tailored to low-voltage applications.

Smaller with more power and now also as a low-voltage motor for AKM2G size 3 with either 24, 48, 72 or 96 VDC voltage as standard. Kollmorgen has expanded its portfolio of AKM2G servo motors.
