DP Technology, the creator of ESPRIT CAM software, announced at the ESPRIT@Work conference in Budapest, where they were joined by over 100 of their partners, that they were setting off again on a polar expedition based on science, technology and adventure, to attempt a world première: to become the first to sail unassisted across the Arctic Ocean.

The heroes of this adventure are French: Sébastien Roubinet, Eric André and Vincent Colliard. The explorers will cross the 3.300 km that separate Alaska from Spitsbergen in a 7 m hybrid catamaran: half sailboat, half iceboat. They will travel over the water and ice in complete autonomy, driven only by wind and muscle power.

The founder of this expedition, Sébastien Roubinet, is trying again, after two previous attempts in 2010 and 2013. Brimming with confidence, this time he will have two crew members on board, in a brand-new boat whose design has been totally re-invented to increase performance, more ergonomic to make it easier for the crew, lighter so it can be pushed when needed and capable of generating energy to ensure its autonomy.

All three men have a passion for the Polar Regions and are very concerned about their current state, which has been menaced by recent climate changes. Thanks to its lightness and the absence of any mechanical propulsion, the boat acts as an ideal platform for the scientific aspect of the project; collecting data on the Arctic environment without disturbing it. The three adventurers are working with several laboratories to perform different measurement, collection, imagery, animal and plankton census protocols for monitoring the ice, observing the impact of humans and making behavioural studies linked to the polar environment.

The whole ESPRIT team fully supports them on this challenge, which will demand extremely robust mental and physical capacities. They are also participating in the technological challenge represented by the boat built by Sébastien using the most advanced materials and technology, some of the innovative mechanical parts of which were made using ESPRIT CAM software.

By associating itself with "La Voie du Pôle", DP Technology has chosen a crew that stands for the kind of vision, passion and commitment which the company and its international teams are known for. DP Technology, the innovative designer of ESPRIT® industrial computer-aided manufacturing software, delivers ingenious solutions for controlling the most powerful machine tools, which shape the modern world. With more than 65,000 licences installed across the globe, ESPRIT is used in all fields of activity: watch-making, medical, automotive, aeronautics, energy, and naturally sailing as well!

A pioneer in its field, DP Technology, together with its employees and partners are proud to be able to give their support and accompany the crew in this human and ecological adventure. And to be even more closely associated with it, a constellation of more than 200 stars on the bridge of the boat, made with photos of all the ESPRIT employees, will accompany the expedition all the way to the North Pole.

This expedition will set off on 1 July for three months.
