Russelectric Highlights Medium-Voltage ATS

Russelectric, A Siemens Business, has highlighted its RTSMV 5/15 kV Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) and Bypass/Isolation Switch, engineered for dependable medium-voltage power transfer in mission-critical settings. These circuit-breaker style switching units are UL 1008A listed for applications above 600 V and below 15 kV, and are designed to meet or exceed IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI standards.

Technical Specifications and Control
The RTSMV ATS supports voltage classes of 5 kV and 15 kV with continuous current ratings of 1,200 A and 2,000 A, respectively, and short-circuit withstand ratings up to 50 kA. The system is managed by the Russelectric RPTCS programmable microprocessor control system, which enables high-speed switching from primary to backup sources under open- or closed-transition modes. An adjustable center-off time delay, factory preset at three seconds, minimizes voltage transients during transfer operations.

Safety Architecture and Bypass Capability
Safety and maintainability are integrated into the metal-clad design, which houses draw-out circuit breakers with self-aligning contacts, automatic safety shutter covers, closed-door racking, and fully compartmentalized power, bus, and control sections. Busbars are insulated with high-dielectric epoxy coatings and separated by polyester glass barriers. The complementary RTSMV Bypass/Isolation Switch offers manual bypass capabilities for emergency load transfer, maintenance, or testing. Operators can select between load-break or no-load-break bypass modes, while the compartmentalized design safely isolates transfer switch components.

Monitoring, Connectivity, and Applications
On the control side, the RPTCS features a VGA color display for real-time metering of voltage, frequency, and optional power parameters. Standard Modbus RTU communications, alongside optional Ethernet and web-server gateways, enable seamless integration into SCADA and industrial networks. Built for demanding sectors such as healthcare, data centers, telecommunications, and renewable energy, the switches are housed in rugged, NEMA-rated enclosures featuring heavy-gauge steel construction and electrostatic powder-coated finishes for both indoor and weatherproof outdoor environments.
