SLB’s Luanda center improves operational performance across African assets

SLB’s Performance Live Center (PLC) in Luanda has completed its first year of operation, supporting more than 100 digital and operational projects across Angola, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.

The center integrates engineering, data analytics, and domain expertise to monitor and optimize asset performance across multiple locations.

Centralized operations and real-time monitoring
The Luanda PLC enables centralized monitoring of distributed assets, allowing engineers to oversee multiple operations simultaneously. This model supports consistent execution and scalability across complex asset portfolios.

Real-time data integration allows continuous tracking of operational parameters, enabling faster identification of deviations and more responsive decision-making.

Performance improvement through analytics
A structured Performance Enhancement Plan is used to identify operational bottlenecks and implement targeted improvements. Through data analysis, predictive models, and workflow adjustments, the center has achieved measurable gains.

Reported outcomes include approximately 15% improvement in operational efficiency and up to 20% reduction in equipment failures.

Application of digital technologies
The PLC applies technologies such as predictive analytics, real-time monitoring, and digital twins to improve planning and execution. In one offshore project, a digital twin was used to validate the design of around 40 subsea wells, reducing redesign requirements and supporting adherence to project timelines.

These tools enable more accurate forecasting and optimization of operational processes.

Addressing operational complexity
The center supports operations in environments with increasing complexity and limited availability of experienced personnel. By centralizing expertise, the PLC enables consistent operational standards and faster response to issues.

This approach is particularly relevant in regions where maintaining production levels and improving asset reliability are key priorities.

Workforce development and digital capability
The PLC also contributes to workforce development through training programs focused on artificial intelligence, data analytics, and machine learning. More than 200 participants have completed training, supporting the adoption of digital technologies across organizations.

This initiative helps build internal capability for managing data-driven operations.

Expansion of digital operations
Future activities include the development of autonomous workflows, support for carbon management initiatives, and expansion into renewable energy-related operations.

The Luanda PLC demonstrates how SLB applies digital technologies and centralized operational models to improve performance, reduce downtime, and scale expertise across geographically distributed assets.
