Compact high-performance linear actuators for industrial motion

Schaeffler expands its EWELLIX electromechanical actuator portfolio with the launch of the EMA-50 and EMA-60. These new compact models extend the EMA high-performance series, designed for dynamic loads in the one to two-ton range, and complement existing variants such as EMA-80 and EMA-100.

Expanding electromechanical alternatives to hydraulics
With the EMA series, Schaeffler offers an energy-efficient, oil-free, and low-maintenance alternative to traditional hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The new EMA-50 and EMA-60 models broaden the application range, enabling electrification across sectors such as mobile machinery, construction equipment, plastics processing, and food production.

At the exhibition, Schaeffler demonstrates the actuators within a modular intralogistics setup, integrating EMA solutions into an autonomous forklift and a chain conveyor system to showcase real-world performance and system interoperability.

High power density in compact dimensions
The EMA-50 and EMA-60 stand out for their compact design, with cross-sections of just 50 mm and 65 mm respectively. Despite their small footprint, they deliver high power density, making them particularly suitable for installations where space is limited.

The actuators are available with three gear ratios, allowing precise adjustment of force and speed to match application requirements. This flexibility supports optimized system design without oversizing components.

Flexible motor integration and system compatibility
Through the use of adaptable interfaces, the EMA series supports integration with standard motors, giving users freedom in selecting their preferred motor supplier. Compatibility with resolver systems and braking solutions further enhances integration into existing machine architectures.

This open approach enables OEMs and system integrators to maintain design flexibility while adopting electromechanical actuation technologies.

Scalable performance for targeted applications
The EMA platform is designed with a finely graded performance range, covering dynamic loads from one to eight tons. This scalability allows engineers to select actuators that precisely match performance needs, aligning cost efficiency with operational requirements.

The compact form factor also opens new design possibilities in applications where installation space is restricted, supporting more efficient machine layouts and improved competitiveness.

Ongoing development and future applications
In addition to spur gear configurations, Schaeffler is developing toothed belt drive variants that enable higher linear speeds at lower gear ratios. These developments expand the versatility of the EMA series and open up new use cases, including motion systems for simulators and other dynamic applications.

With the introduction of the EMA-50 and EMA-60, Schaeffler reinforces its strategy to advance electrification in motion systems, offering compact, efficient, and flexible solutions for next-generation industrial and mobile applications.
