Solar Grid Infrastructure Supports Morocco’s Energy Transition

Nexans Morocco, together with project partners, has been awarded the Noor Atlas project, a large-scale solar initiative led by Masen with the involvement of ONEE and Cluster ENR. The project focuses on developing grid infrastructure to support new photovoltaic capacity across Morocco.

Expanding photovoltaic capacity across multiple sites
The Noor Atlas programme includes six photovoltaic power plants distributed across the country, with a combined installed capacity of approximately 305 MW. Commissioning is scheduled to begin progressively from 2027.

The project is designed to strengthen electricity supply in multiple regions while increasing the share of renewable energy in Morocco’s energy mix. Distributed solar generation across geographically diverse sites also supports improved grid resilience and load balancing.

Grid infrastructure enables renewable integration
A key component of the project is the deployment of electrical infrastructure required to collect and transmit solar-generated power. Nexans Morocco will provide cables and power transformation solutions that ensure efficient energy transfer from generation sites to the grid.

Reliable transmission systems are essential for maintaining performance and stability in renewable energy networks, where output can vary based on environmental conditions. These systems contribute to a more robust digital supply chain, where energy generation, transmission, and consumption are closely coordinated.

Supporting local industrial development
All cables and associated solutions for the Noor Atlas project will be designed and manufactured locally in Morocco. This approach supports the development of domestic industrial capabilities while meeting technical requirements for large-scale energy infrastructure.

Local production also reduces supply chain complexity and supports faster project execution, while contributing to long-term economic value through job creation and skills development.

Aligning with national energy transition goals
The Noor Atlas initiative is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on conventional power sources. By integrating solar generation with reliable transmission infrastructure, the project supports national targets for sustainability and energy security.

Enabling scalable renewable energy systems
The deployment of photovoltaic plants alongside modern grid infrastructure reflects a shift toward decentralized and flexible energy systems. By combining generation and transmission capabilities, the project enables efficient scaling of renewable energy while maintaining grid stability.

Such integrated approaches are critical for supporting long-term energy transition goals and ensuring reliable electricity supply in rapidly evolving power systems.
