Cable connectors with optimized strain relief and ergonomic design

In modern machinery, connectors are continuously exposed to mechanical stress caused by movement, vibration and repeated cable bending. Over time, these conditions can lead to material fatigue and reduced reliability. To address these challenges, binder has developed a new triangular moulding design that improves mechanical resilience and extends connector service life.

Optimized force distribution for demanding applications
The new triangular moulding is engineered to enhance the transition area between cable and connector. Its geometry ensures a more even distribution of bending and tensile forces, reducing localized stress points.

At the same time, integrated anti-twist protection improves stability during operation, particularly in applications with continuous motion such as drag chains or robotic systems. This results in increased durability and reduced risk of failure under harsh operating conditions.

Improved handling and maintenance
Beyond mechanical performance, the triangular moulding also enhances usability. The structured surface provides a more secure grip, simplifying assembly and disassembly processes.

Additionally, the design minimizes areas where dirt can accumulate, making the connectors easier to clean. This is especially beneficial in industrial environments exposed to dust, oil or other contaminants, supporting higher process reliability and reduced maintenance effort.

M16 connector series for industrial signal transmission
The new moulding is implemented in binder’s M16 cable connectors of series 425, designed for robust signal transmission in machinery and plant engineering.

These connectors are available with 3 to 12 contacts and support rated voltages up to 150 V and currents up to 3 A. With protection classes IP67 and IP68 in the mated condition, they are suitable for use in environments with exposure to dust, moisture and splash water.

Gold-plated contacts ensure reliable electrical performance, while versions are available in both shielded and unshielded configurations. The connectors are overmoulded directly onto PUR cables, with standard lengths of 2 m and 5 m, and custom lengths available upon request.

Design-driven differentiation
The triangular moulding also serves as a distinctive visual element, strengthening product recognition and reflecting binder’s focus on combining functional performance with industrial design.

Its development required precise control of injection moulding processes, including material flow management and prevention of air inclusions, while maintaining electrical and mechanical integrity.

Versatile applications across industries
The connectors are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including:
  • Automation technology
  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Robotics
  • Conveyor systems
  • Packaging machinery
  • Measurement and sensor technology
They are particularly advantageous in dynamic environments where cables are subject to continuous movement and mechanical stress.

Enhanced connector performance for modern industry
With the introduction of triangular moulding, binder advances its connector portfolio to meet the evolving demands of industrial automation. The combination of improved strain relief, ergonomic handling and robust design provides a reliable solution for high-performance applications.
