Industrial automation, machine vision, smart manufacturing, and edge computing systems increasingly require compact computing platforms capable of handling graphics-intensive workloads and local AI inference. A newly introduced Mini-ITX industrial motherboard addresses these requirements by combining multi-core processing, GPU performance, and integrated AI acceleration in a single embedded platform.
Designed around processors from the AMD Ryzen AI Embedded P100 series, the motherboard targets industrial edge applications where real-time visual data processing and low-latency AI inference are critical. By executing inference tasks directly on the device, the platform reduces dependency on cloud-based resources, lowers response times, and improves system reliability in environments with limited or unstable connectivity.
Graphics and AI acceleration for edge-based workloads
The processor architecture integrates CPU, GPU, and AI acceleration on a single silicon platform. This configuration supports parallel execution of control tasks, graphical processing, and AI inference, making the board suitable for vision-guided automation, inspection systems, and intelligent human–machine interfaces. The on-chip AI engine is intended for inference workloads rather than training, aligning with industrial edge use cases where deterministic performance and power efficiency are required.
Display connectivity and system expansion
For visualization-intensive applications, the motherboard supports up to four DisplayPort outputs, complemented by LVDS and embedded DisplayPort interfaces. This enables the connection of multiple high-resolution displays, a common requirement in control rooms, inspection stations, and complex HMI installations.
System expansion is addressed through up to four M.2 slots, which can be configured for high-speed storage, communication modules, or additional functional extensions such as wireless connectivity or cellular networking. This modularity allows system designers to adapt a single hardware platform to different industrial deployment scenarios.
Industrial interfaces and power design
Legacy equipment integration remains a key requirement in industrial environments. The board therefore provides up to four serial COM ports for direct connection to field devices, sensors, and controllers. Power input support from 9 to 34 V DC enables stable operation across a wide range of industrial power conditions, including systems with fluctuating supply voltages.
Mechanical integration and lifecycle considerations
The motherboard is available with the SMARTCASE S740 enclosure, which is designed to simplify mechanical integration and accelerate deployment in industrial systems. Development and design in Germany emphasize long-term availability, controlled product lifecycles, and reliability under industrial operating conditions.
With this Mini-ITX platform, Kontron expands its industrial computing portfolio with a solution intended for edge AI, multi-display visualization, and flexible system integration in demanding embedded environments.
