Lhyfe Supplies Hydrogen to France’s First Motorway HGV Station
The A4 station delivers RFNBO-certified hydrogen for heavy-duty and light vehicles, enabling cross-border zero-emission transport corridors.

Lhyfe has begun supplying renewable hydrogen to the first motorway hydrogen refuelling station in France accessible to heavy goods vehicles. The station is operated by TEAL Mobility and has been supplied by Lhyfe since November 2025 under a multi-year contract.
Located on the A4 motorway in the Grand Est region, the station provides a strategic refuelling point on a major European transport axis, connecting France with Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium. It supports both east–west and north–south freight routes, addressing a key infrastructure gap for long-distance hydrogen-powered road transport.
The station has a dispensing capacity of up to 1 tonne of hydrogen per day and is equipped with dispensers at both 350 bar and 700 bar. This configuration allows refuelling of heavy goods vehicles as well as light-duty vehicles, supporting mixed traffic and broader utilisation.
Lhyfe supplies the site with hydrogen certified as RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin), the most stringent classification for renewable hydrogen under the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive. In May 2025, Lhyfe became the first French producer to deliver RFNBO-certified hydrogen, with its four production sites in France and Germany obtaining certification between May and September 2025.
The hydrogen supplied to the station is produced via water electrolysis at Lhyfe’s existing facilities, which together represent 21 MW of installed capacity. The company has indicated that this installed capacity is expected to increase by 70% in 2026, supporting growing demand from mobility and industrial users.
Hydrogen delivery is carried out using Lhyfe’s fleet of 70 type-IV containers, enabling high-capacity transport and operational flexibility. Combined with several years of experience in hydrogen logistics, this infrastructure supports continuous supply to high-throughput refuelling stations such as motorway hubs.
The commissioning of this station marks a technical milestone for hydrogen mobility in France, demonstrating the feasibility of RFNBO-compliant hydrogen supply for heavy-duty road transport on international motorway corridors.
